* Kernel hacking, e.g. qemu + remote GDB + module making. - Matt Davis
The GNU/Linux kernel, although monolithic, is constructed in a module-based format. Device drivers and even major aspects of the kernels functionality are implemented as modules, many of which can be loaded/unloaded at runtime. Creating modules is rather simple, however debugging them is not always trivial. This presentation is a brief overview of the simplicity of module creation and demonstrates two major ways of debugging the kernel and its modules
Matt Davis has been a software hacker/developer by trade and in his free time.  He is currently on leave from his US life/employment in pursuit of his doctorate in Computer Science.  His interests have included software development, evolutionary algorithms, compilers, making really easy things hard, ninja turtles, and consuming coffee.
* Getting More Done With Emacs - Ben Sturmfels
The best tools are ones that save you time and stress. GNU Emacs has a range of great features that simply allow you to get more done. We'll be taking a look at some of the handy work-flow tools for writing, programming and staying organised.
Ben Sturmfels is a free software developer and advocate from Brunswick. He also organises the Melbourne Free Software interest Group and is currently working on a national campaign against software patents.
Beginners - Sat 20 - The Hub
